INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Sangmyung University has established academic exchange agreements with 46 universities in 14 countries, and is now commencing international exchange programs with these academic institutions.
Exchange Student Program
From 1982 to 2005 more than 200 students have taken part in an exchange program with our sister schools throughout the world. Students in both undergraduate and graduate programs may study in a sister school from six months to one year and will receive credit for these courses.
Study Abroad Program
Students who study overseas and receive academic credits equivalent to one quarter of his or her overall credits will receive credit for these courses at Sangmyung University. Sangmyung is currently in deliberation with these academic institutions over tuition payment.
Dual Degree Program
Students who wish to take part in a double degree program must study at Sangmyung for two years as well as in the sister school for two years. Diplomas will be issued from both institutions. Double degree programs will alleviate finances for students as well as increase the scope of coursed available. Currently, Sangmyung has a special relationship with The School of Visual Arts in New York. Art majors are enjoying the opportunities offered from this relationship and Sangmyung is trying to develop similar agreements with other schools.
Language Study Program
During the summer and winter vacations students have the option to enroll in our language study program. About fifty students travel abroad and study for four weeks in our sister schools in the United States, Japan, and China. This program provides and environment for intensive language studies while, at the same time, allow students to engage in cultural activities in the respective countries. Sangmyung subsidizes students who take part in this program and will also recognize any credits gained from studying overseas.
Short-term Culture Program
Prefectural University of Kumamoto, Utsunomiya University and our university are dispatching short period study team to each other every year, carrying out various program such as culture inquiries and language study and in the future we are going to make American sister schools' students take part in the Korean culture program and we'll carry out various exchange programs.
The Buddy System and Home-stay For Foreign Students
Sangmyung will help foreign students who come to Korea to study by providing them with a buddy who will act as both a guide as well as a friend. Sangmyung students are strongly encouraged to volunteer in this program. Doing so will not only help foreign students with their academic and social life in Korea, but will expose volunteers to both the language and culture of the foreign student.
